Project Description: Modern Coastal Cabin in Cannon Beach
Perched along the stunning Oregon Coast in Cannon Beach, this architectural project is a modern interpretation of a classic cabin, designed to offer a peaceful retreat just three blocks from the iconic Haystack Rock. The project began with an existing family lot, which was subdivided to create the perfect setting for this shotgun-style home. The client envisioned a space that would feel intimate and unpretentious, serving as a quick weekend getaway and a comfortable spot for extended summer stays.
Design and Materiality:
The design of the home reflects the client’s desire for simplicity and authenticity, utilizing vernacular Oregon coast materials to create a structure that is both functional and timeless. The exterior features cedar siding, chosen for its durability and natural beauty, complemented by a robust metal roofing system that stands up to the coastal elements. The home is also designed with future sustainability in mind, featuring energy-efficient systems and solar adaptability to minimize energy consumption.
